The best time to visit Uluru is from May to September, when conditions are dry and daytime temperatures suit walking, although winter nights can fall below freezing. April and October are reasonable alternatives, but afternoons may be hot; November to March is less comfortable because of high temperatures, intense UV and occasional thunderstorms.
January is very hot, around 24-38°C, with occasional thunderstorms and much of the year's rain. Heat can reach 40-45°C, making long walks uncomfortable.
February is hot, around 23-37°C, with heavy rain concentrated in the month and occasional thunderstorms. Summer extremes can approach 40-45°C, so daytime walking may be difficult.
March is hot, around 20-34°C, with thunderstorms and much of the region's rainfall. Wet weather can briefly fill waterholes and create temporary waterfalls.
April is mild to warm, around 15-30°C, with generally dry conditions. Walking is feasible, although afternoon heat can remain strong.
May is mild and dry, around 10-25°C, making it well suited to exploring Uluru and Kata Tjuta on foot. Nights can feel chilly in the desert.
June has mild days around 5-21°C and very cold desert nights, sometimes below freezing. Clear, dry weather suits sightseeing and walking.
July is dry, with daytime temperatures around 5-20°C and nights that can fall below freezing. Cool walking conditions suit visits to the rock and nearby gorges.
August is dry and comfortable for walking, around 7-24°C. Wildflowers may add seasonal colour, while desert nights remain cool.
September is dry and suited to walking, around 11-29°C. Wildflowers may be visible, although afternoons can become quite warm.
October is warm to hot, around 16-33°C, with intense UV and occasional heat above 35°C. Early starts are preferable for longer walks.
November is hot, around 20-36°C, with intense UV and occasional temperatures above 35°C. Heat can limit comfortable daytime walking.
December is very hot, around 23-38°C, with summer extremes approaching 40-45°C. Intense UV and occasional storms make extended daytime walks uncomfortable.
