## Brief

- Tromsø is entering the darker winter season. Daylight declines rapidly, with the polar night generally lasting from late November to mid-January. Northern-lights tours are in season, but visibility depends on cloud cover and local weather.
- Try local Arctic produce such as fresh cod, king crab, Arctic char, cloudberries, reindeer dishes, brunost and locally produced Mack beer.
- The Fjellheisen cable car continues to operate, but its upper viewing platform is closed during reconstruction. The new viewing facilities are planned for May 2027 ([nerdnomads.com](https://nerdnomads.com/what-to-do-in-tromso)).

## Safety and health

- The Ullsfjord ferry between Breivikeidet and Svensby was reported suspended because of technical problems, creating a major detour of about 162 km by road instead of the usual 54 km ferry route.
