Brief

  • Victoria is the compact capital on Mahé, useful as a base for markets, colonial landmarks, harbour walks and excursions around the island.
  • Try Seychellois Creole food such as grilled fish, octopus curry, ladob, coconut-based dishes and local rum drinks.
  • The Vibrasyon Victoria cultural event is taking place over the weekend, bringing music, dance, cuisine and Creole traditions to Victoria (sbc.sc).
  • A Seyaura Music Concert is scheduled for 6 September at 20:30 at Music Stadium in Victoria (insideseychelles.com).

Safety and health

  • Mosquito-borne dengue and Zika occur in Seychelles. Use repellent, wear covered clothing and keep accommodation screened or air-conditioned. Pregnant travellers should take particular care regarding Zika (cdc.gov).
  • Chikungunya is also a concern, with potentially prolonged joint pain. Tap water is generally safe in developed areas, but bottled water is preferable where quality is uncertain; medical services are more limited outside Victoria (wikivoyage.org).
  • A yellow-fever vaccination certificate is required for travellers aged one year or older arriving from countries with yellow-fever transmission risk, including qualifying airport transits longer than 12 hours. It is not required for direct travel from the United States (cdc.gov).
  • Petty theft, including bag snatching, pickpocketing and theft from vehicles or accommodation, is reported in tourist areas of Victoria and on beaches and walking trails. Keep valuables secured and avoid leaving items unattended (gov.au).

Recent News

  • Seychelles and Angola held air-services discussions on 31 August 2026, but no agreement, airline, route or launch date has been announced. Travellers should not expect a new Victoria-Luanda service yet (riotimesonline.com).
