- January: Cebu’s biggest and loudest festival, held every January to honor the Santo Niño. Expect massive street parades, nonstop drumming, wild crowds, colorful costumes, and a mix of religious processions and full-on partying. Hotels sell out fast, traffic gets crazy, and the heat is real - but if you want to experience Filipino culture at maximum energy, this is it.
- January: Ati-Atihan is the Philippines’ biggest, oldest street party - a wild, week-long January fiesta in Kalibo, Aklan honoring the Santo Niño (Holy Child Jesus). Think nonstop drums, music, neon costumes, painted bodies, dancing in the streets, and everyone (yes, you too) invited to join the celebration. It’s called “Mother of All Philippine Festivals” because it inspired Sinulog in Cebu and Dinagyang in Iloilo.

- Coron is known for island-hopping, limestone lagoons, beaches, coral reefs and Japanese shipwreck diving. Sea conditions can change quickly, so allow flexibility for boat excursions.

- The MV *June Aster* ferry fire off Coron on 9 September killed 77 people and left eight still missing after authorities reconciled the passenger manifest. The Philippine Coast Guard continued search and recovery operations in late September, with some responders and vessels remaining in the area. Travellers using sea transport around Coron should check directly with operators and authorities for route or port changes.
