September also brings Tourism Month, including a tourist scavenger hunt in Rincon on September 19, the Bonaire Tourism Summit on September 24-25, Taste of Bonaire on September 26 and World Tourism Day activities on September 27 (infobonaire.com | eanews.com).

Safety and health

  • Dengue and Zika are mosquito-borne risks on Bonaire. Use repellent, wear covering clothing and stay in screened or air-conditioned accommodation; pregnant travellers should take particular care to avoid Zika infection (cdc.gov).
  • Yellow fever vaccination is not recommended for direct travel from the United States, but proof of vaccination is required for travellers aged 9 months or older arriving from countries with yellow-fever transmission risk, including qualifying airport transits of more than 12 hours (cdc.gov).

Recent News

  • Bonaire missed its July 1 deadline to select an alternative waste-processing site. A location recommendation is now expected in mid-October, while the existing Lagun landfill is still intended to close by the end of 2028. This is a longer-term infrastructure issue rather than an announced visitor restriction, but it may contribute to environmental and waste-management concerns during a stay (bes-reporter.com).
